Our Story
Ireland has been making traditional Aran knitwear for hundreds of years. Christine Murphy saw something beyond the tradition – something bolder, more colourful, more alive. Meet Urban Aran.
Founder
Christine Murphy spent twenty years understanding luxury from the bottom up and the inside out,
running the rooms and restaurants of Ireland’s finest hotels. She understands implicitly what
captures people attention and draws them towards special things. In 2018 she stopped watching
and started making. Urban Aran was born.
Born in Wicklow and based in Waterford, she took a flexible design course at Limerick College of
Art and Design and became obsessed with deconstructing Aran stitchwork. The catalyst was on
her doorstep — the Waterford Walls project, Ireland's largest open-air gallery, where professional
murals transform old city walls into something genuinely arresting.
Urban Aran is the collision of those two worlds.
